In 1980 started Integrated Tribal development project at BR Hills and established Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra Today the tribal people have accomplished the status of very cultured and civilized people and they compete with the main stream people of Karnataka. He established KARUNA TRUST expanding his services to rural development programs in Yelandur and T.Narasipur taluk. He has been a member of many state and Indian National voluntary organizations in health, rural development, literacy, and family planning. Presently he is the Chairman Task force on Health and family welfare Govt. of Karnataka, Director of Lokayukta (Health Education and social welfare), Member of  National commission on population, steering committee on health for 10th Five year plan, working group-6 on microeconomics and health-WHO, technical advisory group grant in aid committee Govt. of India, Task force on primary education Govt of Karnataka, etc  He was acknowledged by many state and national and international awards They include Rajyotsava state Award, Environment Award, B. R .Ambedkar Centenary Award, Best child welfare Award, Karnataka Jyothi Award, Basava Award, Human Rights Award, Mahaveer Award,  Right Livelyhood Award (alternate Nobel Prize) Sweden1994, Padmashree in 2000.

Profile of Vivekananda Yoga and Research Institute

As a sequel to Vivekananda Rock memorial at Kanyakumari, Swami Vivekananda Yoga research foundation has been started at Bangalore in the year 1986 for doing research and applications of yoga in various fields. Since the activity has grown manifold the institution has been separated and with the headquarters near Bangalore 35kms away in a picturesque serene area near Jigni Swami Vivekananda Yoga research foundation (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana or SVYASA) has been an organization totally dedicated for making Yoga a science for the future.

 

Several yoga research papers appeared in highly reputed journals of international standard. Since last ten years more than 80 research papers on Yoga therapy, yoga applied in other fields such as management, and Basic yoga research. With a 150 beds hospital where in patients with various chronic illnesses such as asthma, diabetes, arthritis, neurological disorders etc are treated with only yoga therapy. The results have been so wonderfully encouraging that in a neurological clinic in Germany a therapy unit has also been working under the guidance of this institution for last four years.

 

In year 2002, SVYASA has been recognized as a deemed university by the apex body of Education University Grants Commission. So it is now Vivekananda Yoga Maha vidyapeetha, (VYOMA) with 200 students doing several yoga courses such as B.YSc. M.YSc. and PhD. 20 students are nearing completion of their PhD. Institute has several books and cd of instructions for yoga therapy . VYOMA is also associated with University of South Florida, Tampa. Hindu University of America, and University of Houston etc. VYOMA has centers in addition at Australia, Singapore, Germany, and England. In USA it is registered as a nonprofit organization in Houston TX where several activities such as teachers training course etc are going on.  Dr Nagendra is the vice chancellor of the university and the director of the institute. Dr Nagarathna MD is the medical director of the institute.

Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL.  Received M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in May 2001.  Clinical experience includes work as a client advocate at Apna Ghar, a domestic violence shelter in the Indian-American community in Chicago, IL, and as a psychotherapist at Mount Sinai Hospital's Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Program in Chicago, IL, and at Roosevelt University Student Counseling Center in Chicago, IL.  Currently working as an intern at the University of Illinois at Chicago's Student Counseling Center in Chicago, IL.  Clinical and research interests include Asian- and South Asian-American mental health and ethnic identity development.

Ms. Anu Prakash is a CBS news reporter going on her fifth year in the business. She started working at UPN 50 and CBS 62 in Detroit on July 1st 2002. Before that she was working in Cincinnati, Ohio at the NBC affiliate - WLWT Channel 5 since September of 1998. For much of the time, she worked as a general assignment reporter. She got her start in Columbus, Ohio at the ABC affiliate, WSYX Channel 6. She started out as a writer and then did some reporting. She went to college at Ohio State University.

At a young age, Sri Aswath learned the Yajur Veda from Acharya Anantakrishna, professor of Yajur Veda at the Bangalore Sanskrit College.

He has been teaching Veda and Vedanta to several students since the year 1975, and in Columbus since 1991. He has conducted several seminars and workshops in many cities, on Veda, Vedanta, Yoga, Philosophy of Patanjali, the Sanskrit language, Buddhism and Jainism. In India, he served as an executive of the Life Insurance Corporation of India from 1966 to 1990, he resigned the Corporation and migrated to the USA. Presently, he works as Systems Analyst at the Franklin County Board of MRDD, in Columbus, OH. His academic studies were in Physics, Mathematics, Law, Insurance and Computer Science. Currently he lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife Usha, and daughters Suhasini and Mrinalini. He will be speaking on the topic of the Bhagavad Gita.

The main objectives of the Gamaka Vachana is to present the Gamaka style of depicting major literary works. This consists of the Vaachana and Vyakyana. The person rendering the Vachana is well adept in music and presents the various poems in various ragas as appropriate to the situation in the story. The person rendering the Vyakyana tries to explain the inner meanings of the poem while briefly keeping the story continuity.

Vaachana is rendered by Smt.Geetha Dathatri who is the daughter of Late Vidwan Ramashastri, a great Vaachana Kaara , and the niece of Vidwan Keshaavamurthy of UDAYA TV fame. She has training from her father and uncle on rendering Gamaka Vaachana and has given numerous programs in the US and India.

 

Prof. Y.N Dathatri, a faculty member at SUNNY Farmingdale in Electrical Engineering, renders Vyakyana .He has picked up the Vyakyana style by observing other artists. He has given some programs, mainly in the US.

  

Gopinath Galagali

Gopinath Galagali is originally from North Karnataka, Bijapur District, in the town of Galagali. Under the guidance of his father, Sri Pandharinatha Acharya Galagali, and his Guru, Pejavara Swamiji, he studied Sanskrit literature and Thatva Shastra for 12 years. For the past five years, he has been conducting lectures, and is very actively involved in the religious ceremonies. Though he is an outstanding Sanskrit scholar, by profession, he is a Computer Engineer. As a hobby, he finds pleasure in studying Kannada literature. He will be speaking on the topic of Kannada Kavya Siri.
