೯ ನೇ ಅಕ್ಕ ವಿಶ್ವ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ೨೦೧೬

ಅಕ್ಕ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರ ಸಂದೇಶ,

ಹೊರನಾಡಿನ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾದ “ಅಕ್ಕ” ಅಮೇರಿಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಆಶೋತ್ತರಗಳನ್ನು, ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನ ನಡೆ, ನುಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕವಾಗಿ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸುವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ. ಉತ್ತರ ಅಮೇರಿಕದಲ್ಲಿನ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಮತ್ತು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾನ್ವಿತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಧರ್ಶಿಸಲು ಯೋಗ್ಯದವಾದ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅಕ್ಕ ಕಳೆದ ೧೫ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕೂಟಗಳ ಆಗರ (ಅಕ್ಕ) ಪ್ರತಿ ೨ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಆಯೋಜಿಸುವ ‘ಅಕ್ಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ’ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದ ಉದ್ಯಾನ ರಾಜ್ಯವೆನಿಸಿದ ನ್ಯೂ ಜೆರ್ಸಿಯ ‘ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ’ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ ೨,೩ ಹಾಗೂ ೪ ರಂದು ನಡೆಯಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಲದ ಸಮಾರಂಭ ‘ಅಕ್ಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ’ದ ೯ ನೆಯ ಆವೃತ್ತಿ.

ಅಕ್ಕ ದ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ೧೯೯೮ ರಲ್ಲಿ. ಮೊದಲ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ಟೆಕ್ಸಾಸ್ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಹ್ಯೂಸ್ಟನ್ ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ೨೦೦೦ ನೆಯ ಇಸವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭರ್ಜರಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆದು ಅಕ್ಕ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಶ್ವದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಕಣ್ಮಣಿಯಾಗಿ ಮನೆ ಮಾತಾಯಿತು. ತದನಂತರ ಡೆಟ್ರಾಯಿಟ್ (೨೦೦೨), ಒರ್ಲಾಂಡೊ (೨೦೦೪), ಬಾಲ್ಟಿಮೋರ್ (೨೦೦೬), ಶಿಕಾಗೋ (೨೦೦೮), ಎಡಿಸನ್ (೨೦೧೦), ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟ (೨೦೧೨) ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಯಾನ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ಕೋ (೨೦೧೪) ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ’ ಸಿಹಿಯನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿದ ಅಕ್ಕ ಇದೀಗ ಮತ್ತೆ ನ್ಯೂ ಜೆರ್ಸಿ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದೆ.

‘೯ ನೆಯ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ’ ಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶ್ವದೆಲ್ಲೆಡೆಯಿಂದ ಸಹಸ್ರಾರು ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳು ಬರುವ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಿದ್ದು, ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ತಯಾರಿ ಭರದಿಂದ ಸಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಕ್ಕ ದ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಹಾಗೂ ಉತ್ಸಾಹೀ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡ ನೂರಾರು ಸ್ವಯಂ ಸೇವಕರು ಅದಾಗಲೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಆಯೋಜನೆಯ ಸಿದ್ದತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಜನವರಿ ೧೫ರ ಮಕರ ಸಂಕ್ರಾಂತಿಯ ಶುಭ ದಿನದಂದು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ನೋಂದಣಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಅಮೇರಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯ ಸಮಯವಾದ ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ೩ ದಿನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನಡೆಯುವ ಕನ್ನಡಮ್ಮನ ಅದ್ದೂರಿಯ ಜಾತ್ರೆ ವಿಶ್ವ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಮನ ಸೂರೆಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು ಖಚಿತ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಸಂಗೀತ, ಕಲೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಆಚಾರ, ವಿಚಾರ, ಆಹಾರ ,ವ್ಯವಹಾರ ಹಾಗೂ ಇನ್ನೂ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಸುತ್ತ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವ ಉತ್ಕ್ರಷ್ಟ ಗುಣ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಸದಸ್ಯರೊಡನೆ ಆಹ್ಲಾದಿಸುವಂತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ.

೩ ದಿನಗಳ ಕನ್ನಡ ಹಬ್ಬದ ಮೆರುಗೇರಿಸಲು ಆತಿಥೇಯ ನಗರ ‘ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ’ ಸಹ ತಯಾರಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಪೂರ್ವ ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ ಮನೋರಂಜನೆಯ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಎಂದೇ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ದ. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿಕೊಡುವ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳನ್ನು ‘ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ’ಯ ೪ ಮೈಲುಗಳ ಬಿಳಿ ಮರಳಿನ ಸಮುದ್ರ ತೀರ, ಅದರ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಮರದ ಹಲಗೆಯ ಕಾಲು ದಾರಿ (ಬೋರ್ಡ್ ವಾಕ್),  ಉತ್ತಮ ಆಹಾರ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳು, ಶಾಪ್ಪಿಂಗ್ ಮಳಿಗೆಗಳು, ತಮ್ಮ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಸೆಳೆದು ಕುಟುಂಬ ವಿರಾಮ ಸಮಯವನ್ನು ಅವಿಸ್ಮರಣೀಯಗೊಳಿಸುವುದಂತೂ ಖಂಡಿತ. ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಬೋಟಿಂಗ್, ಡಾಲ್ಫಿನ್ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆ, ಅಮ್ಯುಸ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಪಾರ್ಕ್, ಲೈಟ್ ಹೌಸ್, ಮ್ಯೂಸಿಯಂ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಗಳಿವೆ.  ವಿಶ್ವ ದರ್ಜೆಯ ಹೋಟೆಲ್ ಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕ್ಯಾಸಿನೊಗಳು ದಿನದ ೨೪ ಘಂಟೆಗಳ ಮನೋರಂಜನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿರಾಮ ಸಮಯ ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ನಡೆಯುವ ಅದೇ ವಾರಾಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಮೋಹಕ ಸುಡುಮದ್ದಿನ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ, ಲೇಸರ್ ಷೋ, ಸಂಗೀತ ಸಂಜೆಗಳು ಉಚಿತ ದರದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯೋಜನೆಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ವೀಕ್ಷಕರಿಗೆ ಮನೋರಂಜನೆಯ ಡಬಲ್ ಧಮಾಕಾ ಒದಗಿ ಬರಲಿದೆ.

ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ ಗೆ ಅಮೇರಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಶ್ವದೆಲ್ಲೆಡೆಯಿಂದ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಬಂದು ಸೇರುವ ಸಾರಿಗೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಅಟ್ಲಾಂಟಿಕ್ ಸಿಟಿ ಅಂತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ, ಫಿಲಡೆಲ್ಫಿಯ, ನ್ಯೂ ಯಾರ್ಕ್ ಹಾಗೂ ನೆವಾರ್ಕ್ ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣಗಳು ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ನ್ಯೂ ಜೆರ್ಸಿ ಟ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಟ್ ರೈಲು ಸೇವೆಯು ನ್ಯೂ ಜೆರ್ಸಿಯ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ನಗರಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ನ್ಯೂ ಯಾರ್ಕ್ ನಗರದಿಂದ ೨ ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಸಮಯ, ಫಿಲಡೆಲ್ಫಿಯ ನಗರದಿಂದ ೧ ಗಂಟೆ, ವಾಶಿಂಗ್ಟನ್ ನಗರದಿಂದ ೩.೩೦ ಗಂಟೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಬಾಲ್ಟಿಮೋರ್ ನಗರದಿಂದ ೨ ಗಂಟೆಗಳ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಕೇಪ್ ಮೇ , ಸ್ಮಿತ್ ವಿಲ್ ನಗರಗಳು ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದು ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸುವಂತಿವೆ.

Dear Friends,

Over the past twenty years, AKKA has evolved into a platform that connects tens of thousands of Kannadigas in the Americas through various Kannada Kootas and one that continues to strengthen the bond between this diaspora and people of Karnataka to promote cultural, business and social initiatives. All of your support over the years is truly appreciated.

In talking to several of our members, there is a clear desire and interest to continue to strengthen this platform. I believe we should broaden our cultural awareness agenda to the next generation, be a much stronger enabler of cross-border business & commerce, be a support system for people coming to US and Canada from Karnataka can count on and play a greater role in channeling our members’ interest to support social initiatives back home. We hope to begin expanding these initiatives beyond the Americas to other parts of the world as well.

As President, one of the key initiatives I am driving with the support of our current Board and the Executive Committee is to attract and increase the involvement of younger members.

Needless to say, this vision can’t be achieved without the direct involvement from each one of our members and the various Kannada Kootas in North America. I look forward to hearing from you with any ideas, suggestions on how we can achieve this together.

The 9th AKKA World Kannada Conference – WKC 2016 is around the corner! This gathering of Kannadigas outside of Karnataka is being held in Atlantic City on September 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2016.

During the three days of WKC 2016, we will celebrate the achievements of our people, immerse in the rich culture of our homeland, encourage our young upcoming talent on a global stage, and facilitate learning and exchange of ideas in various areas. These will include business, youth interests, literary, a women’s forum, among many others. One of our key objectives for this event is to involve our youth by making it more relevant to them. Not to forget it will be a great opportunity to get away from the routine, enjoy delicious authentic food, and have some fun with family and friends!

This year’s exciting event is designed around the theme of “lets all celebrate the greatness of Kannada” – we picked this based on the strong belief that language has always been and will continue to be a key foundation to preserving any culture over generations.
