AKKA Charity

As a non-for-profit organization, AKKA for the past 15 years has involved in various charitable activities including providing books, cloths to needy school children in Karnataka. Some of the funds have helped few primary schools across Karnataka in improving building infrastructure. AKKA has made significant financial contribution to Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF) Hospital in Bangalore, and for the flood relief Chief Minister fund for rebuilding efforts.

 

In 2019, AKKA partnered with Kidwai Memorial Institute, Bengaluru  and donated Mobile Mammography Bus; AKKA is also involved in rebuilding Primary School in Kodagu to help the community affected by the floods.

UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS - 2016

University of Mysore (UoM) celebrated its Centenary Year in 2016. As part of this Centennial celebrations, many projects are planned to further promote education, arts, sports & literature. UoM has a rich legacy, and boasts of 3 Bharat Ratnas, several Jnanpith Awardees, Arjuna Awardees, Padma awardees, Chief Ministers, Chief Justices, and other noted luminaries who passed through its portals. Names like Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr Visveswaraya, Kuvempu, RK Laxman, RK Narayan, EAS Prasanna, Javagal Srinath, NR Narayanamurthy, SM Krishna, indeed hundreds of other noted personalities have all been part of the UoM. AKKA Conducted Hasya program (ನಗೋಕ್ ಇಲ್ಲ Recession) across USA and raised over $40,000 and donated towards Chief Minister Relief fund to support flood rebuilding efforts for the flood victims in North Karnataka.

AKKA has donated $200,000 including $100,000 donation from Mr. B. V. Jagadeesh as matching funds to Sankara Eye Hospital in Bangalore and a section of the hospital is named after AKKA. Press Release

AKKA conducted Manoranjani live entertainment program across USA raised over $ 70,000 and funds were donated to various educational institutions in Karnataka for meeting the educational needs of underprivileged children.

UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS - 2016

AKKA donated nearly $20,000 to Hampi University in Karnataka towards Kuvempu Samagraha Kavya work.

RUN/WALK FOR CANCER AWARENESS - 2018

AKKA Organized Charity walk/Run in Karnataka and in various cities across USA to raise funds for a Mobile Mammography bus Breast cancer is one of the most common type of cancer in India. Ninety percent of rural women in India are unaware of self-examination of the breasts leading to delay in seeking treatment. One in third of the woman has not even heard about breast cancer. It is very important to raise awareness and screen women for breast cancer especially in rural areas where illiteracy, ignorance, poverty and superstition can regretfully lead to delayed diagnosis of breast cancer. Mobile Mammography bus will take breast cancer screening to the door steps of rural Karnataka women.

  • Mobile Mammography for breast cancer screening in rural areas
  • AKKA is partnering with Kidwai Memorial Institute
  • Customized bus with medical equipment being built in Delhi
  • Expected to be delivered by Jan 30, 2019

ASSISTANCE TO FLOOD VICTIMS - 2018

Just as preparations were underway to celebrate 10th AKKA World Conference in Dallas, Texas, torrential rains and floods hit North Karnataka, Coastal and Malnad areas in August 2018 and brought unprecedented damage to lives and properties. It was one of the worst rains and floods to hit Karnataka in recent history. AKKA Board sprang into action and decided to help the victims. AKKA Board has decided to build classrooms for primary school children in the village of Makanduru in Madikeri.

 

Progress Made:

  • Rebuilding classrooms for primary school children in the village of Makanduru in Madikeri.
  • Plan has been approved, Boohmi Pooja done, contractor identified
  • Project expected to be completed by January 30th, 2019
  • Project Cost: $60,000

While most of us are proud of the respective colleges that we have passed out of, and are members of our respective College Alumni Associations, there is surely pride in belonging to the larger University of Mysore Alumni Association (UMAA). There are around 12 lakh alumni who have passed out of UoM, and the UMAA has become a powerful platform for alumni to network, participate, and derive benefits from. Dr. B.N. Bahadur of Michigan was named the Ambassador of the Overseas Chapter of the UMAA. The Overseas Chapter in association with AKKA, raised funds to help some of the Centennial projects.
